Internet Society Hong Kong (ISOC-HK) is a nonprofit dedicated to the open, unencumbered, beneficial use of the Internet. Aligned with ISOC’s overarching vision that The Internet is for Everyone, the .soc gTLD will be an open general-purpose domain promoting the development of the Internet as a global technical infrastructure, a resource to enrich people’s lives, and a force for good in society.
As a gTLD, the .soc domain intends to be open for registration from any individual, society, social networking site, organization, community, group, system, network or initiative.
The word “soc” is a common abbreviation for society, social/socio/socialite, socket, system on a chip (SoC) and security operations center, covering a broad spectrum as a versatile label for a TLD. The .soc gTLD aligns well with ISOC HK’s mission in advancing the development and application of Internet infrastructure.
