The proposed .profile top-level domain represents the profile - the page or summary that describes a person, organization, product, or body of work. Profiles are among the most common content on the web, from personal pages and portfolios to company overviews and product listings.
Intercap Registry proposes to operate .profile as an open namespace, available for registration by the general public without restriction.
Intended registrants include individuals, creators, businesses, and organizations of all kinds that want a clear, memorable address for a profile. Intended users are members of the general public seeking information about a person, organization, or product.
Intercap Registry will make .profile names available worldwide through ICANN-accredited registrars, promote awareness and adoption of the namespace, publish its registration policies ahead of launch, operate the TLD openly, respond promptly to reports of abuse, and comply with applicable safeguards.
Demand for this category is sustainable: maintaining a profile is a standing practice for individuals and organizations across every sector, and is not tied to any trend, platform, or single company.
The mission and purpose of this TLD is to expand consumer choice by providing a space for companies, professionals, tradespeople and others to post summaries of their offerings, including CVs. Registrants and users will be commercial organizations, non-profits, service/product providers and the individuals who want to be able to find a service or product that meets their needs without being burdened by "too much information." It will be sustainable because seekers are often overwhelmed by detailed content and will welcome short profiles instead.
1. Mission and purpose: The mission of .profile is to give individuals and organizations a namespace for their online identity. Intended registrants include individuals establishing personal and professional web presence, a portable complement to platform-bound profiles; professionals, freelancers and public figures; link-in-bio and identity tools; and organizations presenting profiles of people or products. Intended users are the people who look others up online, worldwide. Following delegation, the applicant will, as registry operator of the .profile TLD, conduct a phased launch, implement all ICANN-required rights protection mechanisms, and distribute the TLD through ICANN-accredited registrars, supported by marketing and outreach to build awareness and adoption among the intended registrant and user groups. The TLD will be operated under a comprehensive DNS abuse prevention and mitigation framework covering the full range of abuse types, combining proactive and reactive controls. Abuse reports will be investigated and actioned in line with applicable policy requirements. The objective is to maintain .profile as a high-quality, trusted namespace for registrants and end users.
2. Sustainability: Digital identity is a permanent need that grows with internet participation itself: every person and organization online eventually needs a findable presence, and the desire for identity that individuals own rather than rent from a platform strengthens as platforms rise and fall. "Profile" is the universal term for that presence.
