The proposed .platform top-level domain represents the ordinary business term for a base on which other things are built and offered - the systems, services, tools, and venues through which products reach users and ideas reach audiences. Companies of every size describe what they offer as a platform, and the word is equally at home in publishing, education, and public life.
Intercap Registry proposes to operate .platform as an open namespace, available for registration by the general public without restriction.
Intended registrants include businesses, developers, and organizations of all kinds that build or operate such offerings and want a descriptive address for them. Intended users are members of the general public and the customers who rely on those services.
Intercap Registry will make .platform names available worldwide through ICANN-accredited registrars, promote awareness and adoption of the namespace, publish its registration policies ahead of launch, operate the TLD openly, respond promptly to reports of abuse, and comply with applicable safeguards.
Demand for this category is sustainable: the term is entrenched in ordinary commercial and technical language across every sector, describes a lasting way of organizing products and services, and is not tied to any trend or single company.
The mission of .PLATFORM is to provide a namespace associated with the concept of platform as a foundation or framework that supports or enables activities, interactions, or other functions. The .PLATFORM gTLD is intended to serve a broad range of registrants and users, including individuals, businesses, organizations, communities, projects, and other entities that identify with, relate to, or wish to be associated with the concept represented by the applied-for string.
The purpose of .PLATFORM is to enable registrants to establish online identities using domain names that correspond to this concept. To achieve this purpose, Oyster Dream, LLC will make .PLATFORM available for registration through registrars and other appropriate distribution channels; maintain a secure, stable, and reliable registry infrastructure; implement registration and operational policies that support the availability, security, and integrity of the namespace; and provide ongoing administration of the gTLD to enable registrants to register and use domain names within the namespace.
The purpose of .PLATFORM is sustainable over time because foundations and frameworks that support or enable activities, interactions, or other functions will continue to play a fundamental and enduring role across society and technology. As society, technology, and methods of communication evolve, organizations and individuals will continue to establish online identities associated with the applied-for string.
1. Mission and purpose: The mission of .platform is to provide a namespace for the platform businesses that structure the modern economy. Intended registrants include software-as-a-service and infrastructure companies; marketplaces and developer platforms; media, community and commerce platforms of every scale; and the consultancies and publishers serving platform businesses. Intended users are the developers, businesses and consumers who build on and use platforms worldwide. Following delegation, the applicant will, as registry operator of the .platform TLD, conduct a phased launch, implement all ICANN-required rights protection mechanisms, and distribute the TLD through ICANN-accredited registrars, supported by marketing and outreach to build awareness and adoption among the intended registrant and user groups. The TLD will be operated under a comprehensive DNS abuse prevention and mitigation framework covering the full range of abuse types, combining proactive and reactive controls. Abuse reports will be investigated and actioned in line with applicable policy requirements. The objective is to maintain .platform as a high-quality, trusted namespace for registrants and end users.
2. Sustainability: The platform model, software and marketplaces on which others build and transact, is now a structural feature of the global economy rather than a trend, and "platform" is the standard, stable term for it. New platforms launch continuously across sectors, renewing naming demand.
