DreamHost, LLC is an ICANN-accredited registrar that has been part of the domain names and hosting industry since 1997. DreamHost is one of the very few independent, employee-owned web hosting providers and domain registrars in a landscape where comparable companies are now almost universally owned by large corporate conglomerates or private equity firms.
Our mission statement is "We Help People Own Their Digital Presence." Today, that mission takes shape in countless ways: a new small-business e-commerce site, a personal portfolio, a blog full of random musings. As a hosting company and registrar, we already help people find a domain name and gTLD that fits what they want to show the world, whether that's products, services, or content.
We believe the applied-for .DREAM gTLD would let DreamHost reach the next evolution of that mission: a unique, memorable, and dedicated online space where individuals, businesses, and organizations can showcase their visions and goals. The Internet has unlocked human potential by democratizing knowledge, connecting billions of people, and streamlining communication. A .DREAM gTLD offers another avenue for that same expression; a namespace built specifically around aspiration, where registrants signal intent as clearly as .COM once signaled commerce. Indeed, despite .COM's status as today's default general-purpose gTLD, its origin and original purpose was strictly commercial, hence the "com" shorthand. That commercial framing has never fully served registrants whose sites are personal, aspirational, or creative rather than transactional. The .DREAM gTLD fills that gap.
The intended audience for the applied-for gTLD is anyone with a vision, aspiration, or goal. In other words, anyone with a dream who wants to share it with the world. This is intentionally broad by design: individuals, businesses, nonprofits, creators, and organizations of any size are all intended users.
DreamHost intends to launch .DREAM with a Limited Registration Period following the standard Sunrise Period, capping initial registrations per registrant to favor individual and small-business adopters over speculative bulk registration. As a now first-time registry operator, DreamHost will work with other registrars and hosting companies to incentivize and facilitate bundled hosting and domain packages specifically for .DREAM registrants, allowing new registrants to move directly from registering a domain to building and publishing a site under it. DreamHost will also provide onboarding guides and getting-started resources tailored to first-time domain registrants, including individuals and small businesses launching a portfolio, storefront, or blog for the first time. This is an extension the same registrant support DreamHost has provided since 1997 as a domain registrar, but now such support would now be lent to the .DREAM namespace specifically as a registry operator.
The need this gTLD serves is not tied to a particular technology, platform, or trend, it is tied to a constant: people will always have visions, goals, and aspirations they want to share with the world. As long as individuals start businesses, build portfolios, or want a dedicated space to showcase who they are, or who they're becoming, there will be demand for a namespace that reflects that intent clearly. DreamHost's own history is evidence of this durability; the underlying need which serves as a guidepost for helping people establish and own a presence on the Internet has remained constant since 1997, even as the specific tools, platforms, and formats people use to do so have changed repeatedly. The .DREAM gTLD is built to serve that same enduring need, independent of any single wave of technology or online behavior.
